'Sanctuary' - Hero

A goofy but powerful superhero plagues Magnus and crew

This article may contain spoilers.

Sanctuary takes a page from Nacho Libre this week. Magnus (Amanda Tapping) and crew are trying to help an overweight spandex-wearing superhero named Walter (Chris Gauthier) whose suit is fussed to his body. If that isnt bad enough, its also made of bugs, and killing him slowly.

That doesnt bother Walter, because hes getting to live his dream for the first time in his life. Meanwhile, Kate (Agam Darshi) is going to prove her loyalty to the Sanctuary by saving her brother and killing the man that wanted to use her as a means to get into the Sanctuary and take advantage of it.

At the end of the episode, Magnus offers to let Kate stay in the Sanctuary permanently. She knows what Kate did by feeding a man to the lizard monster, but she doesnt seem too concerned. She sees the good in Kate. Thank goodness, because Im not sure if the audience sees it yet.

What Worked

We got to see the funnier side of the business of protection this week. With the death (or possibly disappearance, fingers crossed) of Ashley, the mood around the Sanctuary has been bleak. Walter brought some much needed humor into the place, and made this stand-alone episode more enjoyable than most.

This season is seemingly shaping up to be even better than last now that Will (Robin Dunne) is confident in his position, and a few more characters have shared the center of the show. Too much Magnus and Will wasnt going to be something worth watching every week for a whole other season, so its nice to have some other characters to focus on as well.

What Didnt Work

What exactly is Declan (Robert Lawrenson) doing at the Sanctuary? He doesnt seem to be of much value yet, other than helping out Will, but its not too late for him to blossom. If he doesnt, then he may as well go back to the London Sanctuary and leave this one alone.

Its sad not to see Ashley (Emilie Ullerup) in the credits at the beginning of the show. She was cute, witty and strong without being annoying like Kate. Kate tries so hard to be unlikable that it really does make you not like her. So much in fact, that when you are supposed to start to like her, you dont. Were supposed to be happy that she sided with the Sanctuary when it comes to killing Constantine, but by this point shes too annoying to even want around anymore.
